Goals and Objectives

The goal of this website is to assist parents to contemplate bilingual education as one option for helping their children become bilingual and biliterate in order to achive some of the advantages that bilingualism has over monolingualism. Additionally, the goal of this website is that parents become able to identify the different bilingual educational models and to recognize the one that best meet their expectations and needs to help their children to reach bilingualism and biliteracy.

MODULE 2: Activities



 

Questionnaire

Please answer the following questionnaire.  The purpose of the questionnaire is for you to reflect on bilingualism, and whether it is an option for your children.  The questionnaire is self administered, and the responses are only for you.

1.       Would you like your children to have more than one way to express themselves?

2.       Would you like that your children have more than one way to understand and describe the world?

3.       Would you like your children to have the opportunity to expand their own thinking?

4.       Would you like your children to have the advantage of having a more creative, and flexible thinking to develop their academic tasks?

5.       Would you like your children to become more creative and better problem solvers?

6.       Would you like your children to solve problems with multiple approaches?

7.       Would you like your children to have the opportunity to access to the most significant and up to date information, even though it is in other language?

8.       Would you like your children to become more sensitive to the people around them?

9.        Would you like your children to become aware of the cultural diversity around the world?

10.   Would you like your children to develop the ability to accept, respect and appreciate people from different backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities?

11.   If you came from some generation of immigrants, would you like your children to develop strong emotional boundaries to your culture of origin?

12.   In the future, would you like your children to have some advantages over other people looking for a job?

13.   Would you like your children to become valuable employees of international or multinational corporations?

14.   Finally, would you like your children to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural?

If you answered yes to most questions, you may contemplate bilingualism for your children. If you think being bilingual is beneficial, then you may consider a bilingual program for your children. The different bilingual education programs are presented in the next module.
